Think of all the things mountains hold. All they have seen; all they have heard.
Conversations, cries, laughter carried on footsteps. Still, they remain — rooted, unchanged. Perhaps the seasons are telling them too where they are in time. In archival photographs, taken decades apart, they stand in the same place, with the same weight. Time passes through them, but it does not move them. They are a measure of scale, and of patience.
There is a quiet beauty in this kind of stillness. In what endures. In what does not need to change in order to remain relevant.
In the end, we look for what will not move. We learn to stand where the mountain stands.
